Middle-Ages Waterford Model
This portfolio presents a physical model of Waterford during the Middle Ages, capturing the city at a time when it was defined by enclosure, activity, and constant change. As Ireland’s oldest city, medieval Waterford was a place of defence and exchange, where life unfolded within walls shaped by political power, religious influence, and maritime trade.
The model seeks to convey the atmosphere of the medieval town rather than a single fixed moment, emphasising scale, density, and movement through its streets and spaces. Key elements such as fortifications, waterways, religious sites, and domestic buildings are used to illustrate how the town functioned as a living, working environment.
